| Such a Flirt |
Being confident and flirty around your crush is not as simple as it sounds. We all get the butterflies and say idiotic things that make us cringe later on. Some people get tetchy and irritable around their crushes, which is usually a natural reaction against feelings that could potentially make us feel vulnerable (i.e. love can make you too nervous to be nice!).
We asked Social Anthropologist and flirting expert Jean Smith to take us through some basic flirting tips. Master them and he’ll be putty in your hands!
Ten ways to nab that man!
1. Smile. People are drawn to positive people who like to have fun. Even if you are feeling nervous, your smile will make people think you aren't, which in turn could make you forget as well.
2. Make eye contact with people. It makes you appear confident, as well as making people feel special because they have your undivided attention.
3. Use open body language when speaking with others. Make sure your shoulders are facing them and your body is turned in their direction.
4. Ask people about their favourite subject...themselves.
5. Remember, people won't remember what you say, they will remember how you made them feel. Making people feel good is the key.
6. If you are not interested in someone, don't be afraid to excuse yourself in a polite way, rather than sticking around for fear of hurting someone's feelings. A simple, "It was lovely meeting you, but I have to go now", is completely appropriate.
7. A light touch on the arm is a good way to show someone that you are attracted to them.
8. Don’t be afraid to let someone know that you are interested in them. We like to be liked, and when we find someone likes us, we are subconsciously driven to find them likeable as well.
9. First impressions are very powerful, and only half is based on what we say. Make sure you present yourself in a way which you wish to be remembered.
10. Don’t take rejection to heart. We can’t all fancy each other so when someone doesn’t feel the same way as you, just tell yourself it’s their loss and move on!
