Losing you virginity is one of those milestones in your life that rates alongside your first day at school, your first kiss, and your first love. It should be a happy and enjoyable experience and one you cherish forever. The reality is that for many teens, first time sex often results in a feeling of regret and confusion. So before you do anything hasty, get the lowdown from the experts as we answer the big questions about losing your virginity...
When is the right time?
If you're in a secure, steady relationship the best thing to do when faced with the prospect of sex is to talk it over with your boyfriend. If that idea sends shivers of embarrassment down your spine then chances are neither of you are ready for sex anyway. But, if you feel like you can talk about it then ask him why he feels ready and why he wants to do it. Is he getting pressure from his mates or does he just want to know how it feels? The best answer he can give you is that he truly loves you and wants his first time to be special by having it with you. If he simply wants to know how it feels then you might want to hold off for a while.
Janice Hiller, a Clinical Psychologist specialising in sexual health says; "The most important question to ask yourself if you're considering having sex for the first time is 'Is our relationship strong enough?'"
