Jack The Lad
Fresh from a much needed holiday, we caught up with the UK’s less-shouty answer to Eminem, Just Jack, to talk lucky pants, talent competitions and Kylie!

Hey Jack, how are you?

Yeah I’m good, I just got back from a holiday to Tobago which was very, very nice and before that I finished my UK and European Tour. It’s all winding down as I’m at the end of releasing singles from the first album. There are plans for a second album- not much music yet though! I’ve been so busy this year I haven’t had chance to think about it but hopefully this week I’ll start writing some new stuff.

Speaking of tours, is there anything you can’t live without when you’re out on tour?

My lucky pants! They’re lucky for gigs, not anything else- they’re not pulling pants! They’ve got Chinese writing on them and are from Gap a few years ago. They’re falling apart, the elastic’s gone, I’m sure one day they’re just going to fall apart on stage but I can’t be without them and they always seem to bring me luck when I’m on stage. Maybe next year I’ll have a little ceremonial burning of them and get a new pair!

What’s been the highlight of your year?

Probably the festival season. Doing the mainstages at V and Wireless were a big thing and playing at Glastonbury was pretty amazing. Selling out the Astoria and Shepherd’s Bush Empire were pretty amazing too, I’d never really imagined doing that before.
London crowds can sometimes be quite difficult, they can be tough as there’s a massive variety of gigs people can go and it’s a competitive place but the last few gigs have been amazing. London is my home town so I do like playing here, we had a brilliant gig in Sheffield a while back, and a Saturday night gig in Stoke which was unbelievable, everybody just went nuts! I like playing in places like Paris and Amsterdam too, we’ve had a lot of good gigs this year.

Where do you think has the craziest fans?

I think probably the north of England especially in Scotland people just go nuts! We did a festival in Belgium and one in Holland and the crowds there were really, really good too. I keep hearing that we’re massive in Holland I think it’s because the music is quite laid back, chilled and funky, and I always feel very at home in Amsterdam so if I have to go back there a few times I’ll be very happy!

We heard you’ve been working with Kylie- what was she like?

She’s lovely- very bright, energetic, professional, good at what she does. I only met her for like 3 hours, so its very difficult to say exactly what someone is like but I think everyone says what I do, and she’s just very, very easy to get on with and very enthusiastic. She’s featuring on a track that was already on my album that’s going to be added for the American release of it; they wanted an extra track so Kylie came in and added some extra vocals.
