In a nutshell:
We’d almost forgotten what Ashlee was famous for. Despite being a constant feature in celeb mags, nobody talks about her music. It's all about her and big sis Jess, her and hubby Pete Wentz or her and her brand new nose. In the US it's a different story, all three of Ashlee’s albums have reached the Top 3 (two went to No.1) but she’s never set our charts alight. So will it be third time lucky with Bittersweet World?
What’s it like?
Really rather good actually. She’s stuck to her rock/pop sound but has brought in the likes of Timbaland and Chad Hugo (Pharrell’s musical partner) to sprinkle a little bit of their musical magic and urban cool onto her sound. Think Gwen Stefani meets Nelly Furtado meets Avril and you’ll be half way there. First single Outta My Head (Ay Ay Ay) is a brilliant album opener and the electro-pop of Boys has got ‘future single’ written all over it. The loopy Hot Stuff and Ragdoll were instant favourites in the MKP office as was Little Miss Obsessive – a duet with Plain White T’s Tom Higgenson. It’s all pretty much up tempo stuff but the one ballad – Never Dream Alone – is a corker. Oh, and us lucky Brits also get her three biggest UK hits (Boyfriend, Pieces Of Me, Invisible) as bonus tracks. Errr, bonus!
