There has been the biggest annual rise since 1990 in the proportion of GCSE exam entries awarded the best grades. This year 65.7% of the exams taken were awarded A* to C grades, a rise of 2.4 percentage points from 63.3% last year, the exam boards reported. As hundreds of thousands of teenagers in England, Wales and Northern Ireland received their results, the pass rate rose again, to 98.4%. More than a fifth - 20.7% - were awarded either A* or A grades.
Do you think exams are getting easier or are students just studying more and being taught better?

The whole 'exams are easier' debate winds me up.
It seems to me that young people in general spend the whole year being ****ged off for this and that and then when we finally do something positive it's because 'exams are getting easier'. Give us a break, for once! |

How are any of us supposed to know if exams are getting easier?
We all only sit our exams once in our lives, maybe twice if we do resits. We can draw no comparison. |

In Scotland we get standard grade and higher past papers. Sometimes papers are hard and sometimes easy. The 2007 Credit chemistry was insanely easy, and this years credit accounts was harder than usual, so I think it just depends :S |

i totally agree,
i hate the fact we work oour backsides off for an entire year, to be told "aww the exams are getting easier"
but i think the exam boards need to even out, the CCEA exams are waay harder than the AQA and OCR ones, and we dont get any extra credit.. |

i think it's unfair to say exams are getting easier. it's basically saying that all teenagers are stupid, and the only reason they're passing is because the exams are really easy. that's not true.
has anyone ever thought that maybe it's because some teenagers don't go out drinking every night, some teenagers don't take drugs, some teenagers don't carry knives and some teenagers work hard to pass their exams.
just a thought.

| To be honest, when I was doing my exams we were given the past papers and I thought they were easier than the ones in my actual exams. |
