Parents are missing out on vital conversations with their children about sex because of embarrassment, a report for the government says. A study by author and agony aunt Anita Naik found three-quarters of young people wished it was easier to talk to their parents about sex. And a poll found that 44% of young people did not trust the information they received from friends.

Do you want to talk about sex more? Who do you talk to about sex?

Thats so pathetic. No wonder this country is going the dogs.

Adults need to start taking responsibilty for thier children after the cute baby stage.

^^ What she said.

Magazines are helpful for teens that can't talk to their parents about it. My mum only talks to me about it now, and I'm 17, she should've talked to me beforehand though. I think they should be told about it when they're 15, for all my mum knows, she could be too late. She's not but like she could have been!!

Doesnt really answer your question but sure hey :-)

Are you offering admin?

I don't talk to my mum about sex, the only thing she's said to me whilst I've been with my boy is that she didn't care but make sure I used protection.

*sings* Let's talk about sex baby, lets talk about you and me, let's talk about sex

Me and my mum don't talk about sex but only because I'm a shy person.

A couple of boys I know, including my boyf, never had a sex talk with their parents. So literally everything they know is from friends/magazines/internet. I thought that was pretty shocking. My mum was always really great with the whole birds and the bees thing.

I aint no abacus, but you can count on me my love

I can talk to my mum easily but not my dad. I can't even watch SATC if he's in the room. Erlack.

I shall buttonhole my son for a Sex Talk this very evening....

(I was going to add, if he's up for it, but under the circs perhaps I'd better not....)

A bit harsh on the parents maybe? Embarrassment works both ways and it's my experience that it's the young people who'd sooner self-amputate a limb than talk to their parents about sex. In fact I've lost count of the number of times I've read as much here on MKP. I think everybody probably finds it easier to talk about sex to their contemporaries or, failing that, a stranger .....

I don't talk to my mum about sex, because she'd either just jump on me and bite out my eyes, or act like the gym teacher in Mean Girls...'if you have sex you WILL get pregnant...and die.'
