Britain's involvement in the slave trade is to be studied by all secondary pupils in England from September. Children will study the development of the trade, colonisation and how slavery was linked to the British empire and the industrial revolution. In history, World War I and WWII and the Holocaust are already compulsory.

Do you think the inclusion of the slave trade in the curriculum is important in Britain's schools? Is there any other part of history you think should be included?

No, actually, I don't think it's as important as ww1 and ww2. I loved history at school.

Slavery is part of the USA unit which you can do at standard grade in Scotland. I think it is quite important in world history but more so in North American history since it was a major factor of the American Civil War.

Yeah I think it's important and people need to learn about it. I think ww1 and 2 are also important to learn about, although they are already taught in schools. I think I learnt a little bit about the slave trade in school.... well, the teacher taught about it, i didn't really learn it lol. I hated history, my class was full of clever people so I sat there every lesson while they talked about stuff I didn't understand lolzz.

I think it's an important part of world history that people need to know about.

Saying that, i HATED history in high school. All we ever did was talk about Wars, important but booooring.
