A pretty girl who won national fame after singing at the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games was only miming. Wearing a red dress and pigtails, Lin Miaoke charmed a worldwide audience with a rendition of "Ode to the Motherland". But the singer was Yang Peiyi, who was not allowed to appear because she is not as "flawless" as nine-year-old Lin. Speaking on Beijing Radio station, musical director Chen Qigang said the organisers faced a dilemma because although Lin was prettier, seven-year-old Yang had the better voice. "After several tests, we decided to put Lin Miaoke on the live picture, while using Yang Peiyi's voice," he told the radio station.

What do you think of this - do you understand why the organisers used two girls or do you think they should have stuck to just one of them?

I saw the picture of the girl who really sung and couldn't understand why they didn't stick with the original, surely they would saved money and embaressment... She looks cute anyway.

i can see that there is a problem but its not really that big a deal..

I think its so mean for the girl who apparently wasn't pretty enough, but now everyone knows how talented she is.. maybe thats a good things, it caused debate making her a topic which will now hopefully give her the credit she desearves!!

I thought that was really harsh, saying that the girl wasn't pretty enough. I'm sure she wasn't that bad, not that it really matters anyway. The opening ceremony was stunning, but it kind of put a dampener on it hearing about that poor kid. She get's no credit for that and she was great.

This just goes to show how much the people on this planet care about what you look like and not what is inside.
Anyway, I'm not really that bothered 'cuz I think that China should get off it's arse and try to do something about Global Warming (seeing as they are they are one, if not the biggest contributers) instead of faffing about with the Olmpics.

I honestly hand on heart would stop her, the olympics might be a great opportunity but I wouldn't want her feeling like there was something wrong with her that stops her from actually appearing on stage, things like that could give her an inferiority complex for life, and I don't think it would be worth it. Plus everyones going to remember the little girl who mimed not the poor sod who actually done the singing

Would you really though? Deny your child the opportunity to sing solo for the OLYMPICS? It's an opportunity of a lifetime, very few parents- especially in China, where there's a lot of pressure to achieve- would stop their child from doing that just because they don't want the child to do the acting side of it as well.

I don't really care, to be honest. There are much more significant things to worry about atm. I do however think it would have given a much better impression if they hadn't done that and had just stuck to one girl.
