While we’re aware an afternoon with Renée Zellweger is the perfect chance to get the goss on the eagerly awaited Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason, we’re gagging to get a closer look at the lady herself. Is she really that skinny? Can a women really pout that much and still talk? Is she as aloof as she seems? We were, we’ll admit, a little sceptical. In reality, Renée is nothing like the Renée we’re used to seeing on the showbiz circuit. Yes, she’s slim, but she’s not bordering on breakable. Yes, she pouts like a trooper but she also smiles a lot too. And no, she isn’t aloof; she’s friendly, very sweet and incredibly funny. Go Renée!
We heard that the first scene in the new film, the one with the pigs, was filmed on your first day. Was it a good way to get back into the spirit of Bridget?
Yeah, it’s definitely a nice way to get to know your crew! It certainly set the pace of the film didn’t it? Always expect the unexpected! I really enjoyed it; it was hilarious! It makes the day go by really quickly, you know, dozens of pigs around you and you’re learning all sorts of things about pig interaction! There was a big gap between first and second film, did the fact that you had success away from Bridget in that time make it easier to come back to the character? I don’t know how that would play into it? I don’t know that it’s something I think about on a daily basis. I really don’t know how that would play into it? I guess it was just timing really. The first time I had really heard of (doing the sequel) was in the press actually, while I was making Chicago in Toronto. That’s when people started to question and say: “We’ve heard you’re going to be involved in this movie?” It was really the first I’d heard that we’d committed to this film. It just made me think, because of people’s curiosity and interest in this film, that actually it might be worthwhile!
