As Meet The Spartans gets a DVD release, MKP caught up with its star Carmen Electra to talk movies, getting hot and sweaty with an ex EastEnder and ‘playing sexy’.
What attracted you to the role in Meet The Spartans?
I’ve worked with Aaron and Jason (writers-directors, Aaron Seltzer and Jason Friedberg), on Date Movie and Epic Movie. I think they were also writers on the very first Scary Movie that I did. I love them, of course. And I also thought the subject was a spoof in itself - the movie, 300, just seemed like it was a spoof waiting to happen. Shirtless guys everywhere, the whole homo-erotic subtext (laughs). I really loved the script. I thought it was funny. So, why not?
Is being a part of this troupe like being part of a family?
It is like being part of a family. There’s a comfort level. I know that I can trust them and we have a great relationship. And I’ll be working with them again this summer, so that should be fun!
What are you doing next?
There have been a couple of different titles going around. I can’t tell you what it’s about just yet. But I’ll be working with Snoop Dog and Kim Kardashian, so that should be fun. We start in a few days in New Orleans.
Are these films as much fun to make as they are to watch?
They are fun. You go into them with a sense of humor. It’s very lighthearted, especially working with these guys. You don’t have to stick to the exact lines. You can have fun and that’s what it’s all about… I feel so lucky to be able to get up and go to work everyday and laugh, and not take things so seriously.
