Sky High
Myself and Colin and Pierce would always be dancing in the opposite direction to everyone else
Dominic Cooper is hot, hot, hot! With a great tan, puppy dog brown eyes and a voice that leaves us weak at the knees, he’s up there with Zac and Orlando on the MKP fit list. So far he’s hit our screens as Dakin in the fab History Boys and Willoughby in the BBC’s Sense and Sensibility, and later this year he’s set to appear as Keira Knightley’s love interest in The Duchess.

His latest part is in the ABBA musical Mamma Mia! in which he plays hunky Sky, the fiancé of lead role Sophie (played by Amanda Seyfried). We caught up with him to find out all the gossip from the film – including how he felt about being “practically naked all the time” (the film is set on a beach in Greece – amazing!), who was the worst dancer and why he got involved with a large vibrating machine on set. Ooh, saucy!

What was your first thought when you got the part?

I couldn’t believe it. I wasn’t actually even gonna go to the audition because I didn’t think I’d be a good enough singer. But then when I heard I’d got it I was very secretly extraordinarily excited.

Had you never thought about singing before?

Well I always thought I hadn’t but the truth is that from a really, really early age I have. At primary school we did Bugsy Malone and at secondary school we did Cabaret. And at drama school I did stuff with singing or music in them. So I suppose it had always been there but I never ever thought I’d do an actual musical. I think actually at drama school I was advised strongly not to ever do it!

Were you a big ABBA fan before you made the film?

No I wasn’t really. It was always played and the girls that I knew always loved it and I’m sure my mum loved it. But then I did actually see a tape that my ex-girlfriend sent me of me dressed in a fur coat and with a tennis racket in my hand singing Money Money Money at the top of my voice. So I did know all the lyrics apparently!

So you were a secret fan!

Yeah I think that might’ve been the case!

Were there any accidents or injuries on the set?

Accidents or injuries? No there was just very bad dancing! Myself and Colin and Pierce would always be going in the opposite direction to everyone else. But the only accidents were tiny mishaps and bad steps. I think someone might have come off their jet ski and hurt themselves… but apart from that, no.
