It’s hard not to be jealous of Amanda Seyfriend. She’s a blonde-haired, blue-eyed American beauty who, at the age of 22, has already starred alongside Lindsay Lohan in Mean Girls and Justin Timberlake in Alpha Dog, and has just been named one of the four hottest young actresses in Hollywood by Vanity Fair. Enough to make you sick isn’t it?!
We managed to cast the green-eyed jealousy monster aside long enough to chat to the young starlet about her latest flick, the all-singing, all-dancing ABBA musical Mamma Mia! Playing one of the lead roles, it looks set to get her name onto the A-list – in big, bold, capital letters!
Amanda’s character Sophie sets out to learn the identity of her long lost father before her wedding to Sky (played by Dominic Cooper). Reading her mother’s diary, she brings three men, (Colin Firth, Pierce Brosnan and Stellan Starsgard) to the Greek island where the wedding is to be held to find out who should walk her down the aisle.
Sophie is sweet, passionate, excited about life and completely lovable. And annoyingly, we found out this is exactly what Amanda is too… making it impossible to harbour jealous thoughts towards her for long! Damnit, some girls really do have everything!
Was it scary taking on a part where you had to sing and dance?
The singing and dancing wasn’t the scary part, it was more working with Meryl! I’m a born performer, and so singing is kind of in me.
And the dancing?
Yeah the dancing was fine too, I was just watching the fear in Pierce and Colin’s eyes!
But you said it was scary working with Meryl, what was she like?
She’s incredible as a person and as an actor. It was more what I built up for myself. I had this expectation of failing with her and not giving her anything but we had chemistry and that’s why we were cast, because they thought we’d be good together. And we were – I got lost in her world and I was able to be taken in by her.
And was she nice offset as well?
She was absolutely wonderful!
What was your favourite scene to film?
I think it has to be When All Is Said And Done with Pierce and Meryl singing coz everything was all sort of off the hook. Everybody was dancing on the tables and stuff. That was really fun.
Have you got a favourite memory from the whole thing?
Just Greece in general was an incredible memory really. I mean we partied every day we had off, which was wonderful. We all came together and we all knew each other so well by the end. We were so happy and comfortable, and we had a great wrap party where Benny sang and we all did karaoke. It was amazing!
If you had to pick Colin or Pierce or Stellan as your dad who would you pick?
I think I would pick Stellan as my dad. He’s a Swede! I love Swedes and he’s just cool. He’s very liberal and just lovely.
What was it like kissing Dominic (Cooper)?
Kissing Dominic was fun! Well it was weird actually because we were already friends. It was fine though, we just laughed the whole way through it!
Can you describe your perfect wedding?
My perfect wedding would be a very, very small wedding. And I’d be wearing a very, very thin wedding dress with no shoes… and I suppose I’d possibly be on a Greek island.
