Juno (12A)

The Pitch
Sixteen year old Juno MacGuff is smart and outspoken and not the kind of girl who cares what other people think. When she gets pregnant by her not-quite-boyfriend she deals with it in her own pragmatic way and decides to have the child adopted by a wealthy couple who she finds via a newspaper ad. It’s then that the problems really start…

The Talent
We predicted big things for Ellen Page this year and we weren’t wrong! Her portrayal of Juno bagged her a Best Actress nomination at this year’s Oscars and she’s landed the star role in Drew Barrymore’s directional debut, Whip It. Look out for Jennifer Garner too who’s brilliant as uptight Vanessa Woring and Superbad’s Michael Cera is adorable as father-to-be, Bleeker.

The Verdict
Can we give it 6/5? Yes – believe the hype – it really is that good! It’s so refreshing to come across a film with a teen storyline that doesn’t subscribe to the usual Hollywood stereotypes. The characters have depth, the storyline is completely believable and the script is laugh out loud hilarious! This rightly deserved all of the accolades and praise it received, and never mind the backlash – we’ll be watching this over and over!
