The Pitch
The Pitch When little Penelope arrives in the world, her parents are less than thrilled to see their tiny bundle of joy resembles a piglet more than a baby! As she grows up she’s hidden away from the world, until her parents realise the family curse that has affected Penelope can be broken if “one her own kind” falls in love with her. So a whole host of frightfully mean but suitable boys are introduced to Penelope in the hope that they may fall in love. Unfortunately they all run a mile when they see her unusual appearance, apart from Max, who is very different from the rest. But of course, the path to true love never runs smoothly, does it?

The Talent
The Talent Christina Ricci stars as the wonderfully misunderstood Penelope and there’s a whole smattering of Hollywood A-listers along the way too. Reese Witherspoon is Annie who helps Penelope figure out just what life is really about, and MKP fave James McAvoy plays Max. Watch out for an appearance from Russell Brand and Hot Fuzz funnyman Nick Frost too.

The Verdict
The Verdict This is a magical breath of fresh air and the perfect feel good film to snuggle up on the sofa in front of. It’s an edgy take on the traditional fairytale with a reminder to us all that beauty is only skin deep- a lesson we could all do with remembering from time to time! And of course, any excuse to see the lovely James McAvoy is fine by us!
