Mamma Mia (PG)

The Pitch
When you hear the words ‘Mamma Mia’ the first thing that springs to mind is probably a West End musical or a cringey song your mum likes, but that’s all about to change with the release of the brilliant big screen version. Sophie is about to get married on an idyllic Greek island where she lives with her mum Donna who raised her single handedly. Before the celebrations kick off Sophie is determined to find out who her real dad was, so invites three tall, dark, handsome strangers from her mum’s past to the wedding - in secret. Oh and the challenge – she has just 24 hours to figure out who’ll be walking her down the aisle…

The Talent
The Talent quota in this film is HUGE! First there’s the heart-stoppingly gorgeous Dominic Cooper who we recently met (and swooned at), the very lovely Amanda Seyfried who plays his love interest Sophie (and according to reports their chemistry on set was so real it caused problems with Dominic’s off-screen girlfriend!). To support the young leads there’s a whole host of seasoned stars too - Meryl Streep, Pierce Brosnan, Julie Walters and Colin Firth complete the stellar line up.

The Verdict
Now, we admit we like a musical here at MKP but we reckon even if all-singing, all-dancing action isn’t usually your bag you’ll still love Mamma Mia. There’s a real story at the heart of the film, peppered with romance, comedy and drama that draws you right in. And, if that’s not enough the stunning backdrop of Greece with its clear blue waters and endless sun should take your mind off the rain here in Blighty!
