Music For Men

The Gossip

In A Nutshell

The Gossip have been drifting in dangerous territory for a while now. After the huge success of their 2007 hit Standing In The Way Of Control, they’ve had their work cut out to prove that they’re not just one hit wonders. That’s not all though; thanks to the media spotlight that’s been beaming down on larger-than-life front-woman Beth Ditto (have you seen those nearly-naked fashion shots!), the band also need to remind everyone that it’s the music they’re about, yeah? But after listening to Music For Men, we reckon all that hard work might just have paid off…

What’s It Like?

Okay, so while we love this album, it doesn’t get off to the best start. Opening with bluesy number, Dimestore Diamond, we’re momentarily fooled into thinking the threesome have lost the punk-y fierceness we love them for. But then come the frenzied tracks – For Keeps and Pop Goes The World have enough funky anarchism to keep anyone rocking for a while! Towards the end of the album we’re also treated to a couple of genuinely moving heartbreak anthems – Four Letter Word and Love Long Distance show a sweetness to The Gossip that we never even knew existed. There’s no escaping this band’s musical talent and creative spirit, the trio have pulled together a diverse range of songs never losing sight of their punk spirit and originality. Who are you calling a one trick pony?!
