The Pitch

George Simmons is a world-famous comedian and film star who decides to "return to his roots" in stand-up after a doctor diagnoses him with a rare and inoperable disease. After a shambolic gig in a local pub, George meets Ira - an aspiring comedian who mines a few laughs out of his performance. George hires Ira to write jokes for him, and eventually to work as his personal assistant. But when George reconnects with his ex-girlfriend Laura - now married to an Australian huckster named Clarke he begins to truly reconsider his affluent but empty lifestyle.

The Talent

The ever funny Adam Sandler manages to squeeze out laughs from even the most serious scenes –  as does lovable Pineapple Express star Seth Rogan who we can’t help want to hug!

The Verdict

Judd Apotow, the director that bought us The 40 Year Old Virgin and Knocked Up, delivers his most serious flick yet. That’s not to say Funny People was without its laughs though – it just wasn’t quite the howl fest we were expecting. Sweet and touching, we were more than satisfied with the handful of smiles we were given.
