Madonna caused quite the stir at Radio 1’s Big Weekend in Maidstone this weekend. The feisty star used the f-word twice during the gig, which was live on Radio 1, BBC3 and BBC HD. Wielding an S&M-style cane, she introduced her 2005 hit Hung Up by saying: “You guys are going to have to start f***ing it up out there ’cos I need to feel some love. I’m going to do an old song. But not too old. F**k the present. Let’s live in the past.” Charming! And it’s not the first time Madge has messed up for the BBC – she also swore on stage during last year’s Live Earth gig. You’d think the so-called Queen Of Pop would have more class than that!
But if her royal status was ever in doubt, a peek at her back stage behaviour will confirm just how Madgesterial she really is. Not only did she demand to be flown by helicopter from her London home to the gig in Kent (a mere 37 miles!) but her demands also managed to rub some of the other artists up the wrong way.
A source told The Mirror she arrived late for rehearsals, forcing everyone else’s allocated time slots to be put back, while her entourage arrived early and gobbled down the free food and drink reserved for the other performers.
“As well as her own VIP area, she had a 70-strong entourage and three dressing rooms. Her security was so tight, even her hubby Guy Richie had trouble getting in!” says the source. "She had special Kabbalah water shipped in and demanded bouquets of white roses which remained unopened.” What a diva!
Meanwhile, in other Big Weekend news, Kelly Osbourne shared an on-stage snog with tubby Radio 1 DJ and funny man Chris Moyles. Urgh, what’s wrong with these celebrities?!
