Emmy Rossum
It’s so refreshing to see a Hollywood actress who isn’t afraid of using more than the bog standard ‘safe’ amount of make-up – often the results are much more exciting and eye-catching than subtle dustings of blush and mascara. Scarlett Johansson is another daredevil with make-up, as is Gwen Stefani, so Emmy has aligned herself with some expert face painters. The trick is not to look like you’re heading to a carnival, but to accentuate the right areas just a little more than necessary.

Start with a tinted moisturiser, this will provide suppleness and a little fresh shine to your skin, as well as light coverage. Try Almay’s Face Brightener which has light reflecting crystals to brighten your skin, as well as loads of good stuff like Vitamin C, A and E.

In order to pull off a generous dusting of blush, you need to embrace some shine – colour and shine offset each other perfectly. Origins still has the best highlighter around, called Halo Effect. It’s much more fluid and manageable than similar products by Revlon and Benefit. Shake well and apply to cheekbones, browbones and even a touch on the nose.

Now you need to get your paws on a really rosy blush as well as a good brush. It’s worth investing in a good blusher brush because it makes all the difference when you apply your colour. Bobbi Brown has a high quality brush set complete with a leather case, so bristles are kept intact. Alternatively try Mac.

There are so many pretty pinks around for cheeks, but we love Pixi’s Knockout bubblegum pink (don’t forget to dust your lids with it too). Pair this with Pixi’s lovely thick lipgloss in Zuzana, a luscious raspberry red, and you’re bound to stand out.

Be bold with eyes too. Liquid liner needs a steady hand, so opt for a chubbier one like Max factor’s Max Factor High Definition Eyeliner - but don’t use this under your eyes, or you’ll look too much like a clown. Complete with a stay put mascara so you don’t have to worry about smudging. Maybelline Unstoppable Mascara lengthens lashes for that theatrical spidery effect – very Hollywood glam. Emmy, Scarlett and Gwen would be so proud!
