Case study: Lonely
Hi! I'm Dr Petra.
I'm a psychologist based at University College London and I research sex and relationships. Fire away and ask me what you need to know. Don't be embarrassed - I'm here to sort out all your awkward, personal, and just plain confusing problems
Your Question
dear Petra, I'm 16 andI think i've fallen for one of my best friends oldest friend which is a boy. he's 5 years older than me so i no it would be a problem but i always feel that theres a little spark between us when ever we're together. He's not like anyother boy. He's so caring and funny and doesn't seem to mind if a girl is not exactly slim. All my other frinds say to go for it but i don't want to fall out with my best friend but i can't help but think about this boy! What should i do? Amy
Dr Petra's Response
Have you talked to your friend about it? If so, what did she say? If not, why not say to her that you like her mate and see her reaction. She may surprise you and be really happy about it.

It may be he likes you, it may be he’s just being friendly. You’ll only know if you ask him. If you think your mate will be okay with it then go for it. But judge her reaction as if it’s likely to cause many problems it might be worth looking for some other guys you like and keep your friendship.
