A is for Alcohol
Highs: In small amounts, can make you feel relaxed and confident.
Lows: In large amounts, people can get clumsy, say and do things they might regret, and feel really ill the next day. If you drink a lot over the years, it can damage your heart, liver and stomach. People can become addicted. Drinking a large amount can poison your body, leaving you unconscious or even dead. It’s dangerous to mix alcohol with other drugs.
The law: 16 and 17 year olds can buy (or be bought) beer or cider so long as it's bought to eat with a meal, but only in a place specifically set aside for meals. Other than this exception, it's against the law for anyone under 18 to buy alcohol in a pub, off-licence or supermarket. It's also illegal to buy alcohol in a pub for someone who is not 18. Anyone over 18 can buy and drink alcohol legally in licensed premises in Britain.
